Royal Yacht Britannia
Audio guide in English
The Britannia was launched in Scotland in 1953, and since then, the Royal Family has used it for 968 official voyages, sailing over a million nautical miles and making 600 stops in more than 135 countries.
Whenever the Queen traveled aboard the Britannia, she felt right at home. Photographs of her children, some personal belongings, and various gifts from her voyages can still be seen on the walls.
Over the years, the ship has been the venue for official receptions, banquets, and state visits, during which 45 members of the Royal Family could come aboard with five tons of luggage.
In 1997, after 44 years of faithful service, the ship was decommissioned and is moored in Leith Harbour, where curious tourists can discover the inner workings of this impressive vessel.
