Located at the east end of Westminster Abbey, Henry VII's Chapel, also known as the Lady Chapel, is a testament to English history.
At the center of the chapel stands the majestic tomb of Henry VII and his wife, Elizabeth of York.
Their son, Henry VIII, also known as Bluebeard, is not there. He is buried in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
The couple is surrounded by the tombs of Margaret Beaufort, Henry VII's mother, their granddaughters Mary Tudor, Elizabeth, and Margaret Douglas, and their grandson Edward VI.
Also present is their great-granddaughter, Mary Stuart, who married their great-grandson Henry (Lord Danley), Margaret Douglas's son.
Their great-great-grandson, James I, is also present with his wife, Anne of Denmark.
The entire Tudor family finally rests here in peace, after a long and tragic history.
Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn, accused of adultery, was beheaded on the orders of her father, Henry VIII. Mary Stuart was accused of ordering the assassination of her husband, Lord Danley. She, in turn, was beheaded on the orders of Elizabeth, who suspected her of plotting to depose her.
Built between 1503 and 1519, Henry VII's chapel boasts a daring fan vault. The carved oak choir stalls display the symbols of the Tudor dynasty. Every detail, from the medieval pavement to the stone pendentives, tells the story of a quest for royal glory.
Since 1725, the chapel has been linked to the Order of the Bath. The knights' banners still hang inside, marking their ongoing ceremonial role.
